How do I complete self-directed training?

3 min. readlast update: 11.12.2025

Our online self-directed training is completed through the NSU website. You are assigned various modules. The only module you have to complete to be recognised as a Programme Rep is the Programme Rep Core Training. All other modules are optional depending on whether you want to get involved with additional opportunities we offer such as rep grants or rep recognition.

To complete your training via our website, simply complete the following steps:

1. Log into mynsu.co.uk with your Northumbria student credentials. To do this, click the user symbol at the top right of the page, then ‘Log In’. You will have to authenticate with Duo.

2. Once you’re logged in, click the user symbol again and then ‘My Account’.

3. You should now be on your account page. On the left of the page is a menu. Click 'Training'.

4. You will be assigned training modules based on your rep role. Select the module you want to complete by clicking 'View Module'.

5. Read through the training slides. Don't forget to scroll down and click 'Take Exam' after you have read them all!

If you don't complete the test at the end and achieve at least the pass mark, you will not be marked as trained and will continue to receive emails from us reminding you to complete your training. You are given 5 attempts to achieve the pass mark. If you run out of attempts, email su.reps@northumbria.ac.uk and we will reset your attempts for you.

6. If you ever need to go back to the content from the slides, you can find it on the 'Completed' tab on the training page.

Questions

Do I have to complete the training every year I am a rep? / I did the training last academic year, do I have to do it again?

Yes. We always encourage reps to complete the training every year as it is the best place to receive new information about your role and responsibilities, and many aspects of the role or the university structure will change from one year to the next.

One of the reasons we have introduced this self-directed option is to make it easier for returning reps to refresh themselves on the training content as quickly as possible without having to attend another staff-led session.

Please note that if you do not complete the training, you will not have your rep role recognised on your Higher Education Achievement Record when you graduate.

Do I have to complete the training on the website if I have already been trained in a staff-led session this academic year?

If you have attended a training session this academic year at Rep Conference or another session where a member of staff delivered the training to you (either in person or via Microsoft Teams), you do not have to complete the training again.

We do our best to ensure that everyone who attends training at one of these staff-led sessions is marked as trained on our data, but if you do not give us your student number during the session we will be unable to identify you and mark you as trained.

If you have been trained but are receiving emails telling you that you haven't been, please reach out to us and we can try to sort it out for you.

If you have any questions about the content of the training or the process of completing it, please email us at su.reps@northumbria.ac.uk.
